Hamilton Island: In The heart of The Great Barrier Reef

P1060197
What a perfect place to visit. If ever asked some of my favorite places this is one. 74 islands make up Whitsunday Islands and Hamilton is one. P1060165

At 5:30 AM the first tour headed out to spend the day swimming and snorkeling on a platform on The Great Barrier Reef. This group boarded a charter heading to the reef and our ship continued on for 90 miles to anchor off Hamilton Island. Later in the day they will travel on a speed boat 2 hours to reboard our ship.
The sunrise from our balcony was beautiful as is this this whole area.

Love the Reef weather forecast in Hamilton: "Weather: A Good Day"

Hamilton Island is the most populated and developed island in the Whitsunday group. 70% of this area is preserved in its natural state and are national parks. The water s crystal blue. People on this island travel the island by golf carts. :) I saw no cars on the roads today, just golf carts and small tour busses.
With a population of only 1,300 people, most of the island is sprinkled with resorts, and most condos are rented out to tourists. The owners are here for Holidays. It is very much a tourist destination. The area has lush well maintained natural and manicured landscapes. Lots of very huge yachts are docked here. Most of the yachts have hired live on crew. I took a 2 hour cruise around the islands then a round the island bus tour which was complimentary --- all 15 minutes of it. If you are into hiking (1,853- acre virgin bush land, Trisha), boating, sailing, snorkeling, diving, yachts, swimming, The Great Barrier Reef, clean clear warm ocean water (80+ degrees) and perfect weather ..... where Caelan, Isla and Finn will be able to visit Koala Bears and baby crocodiles ... this is the place to be. There is one school which has 45-50 kids. Once you get old enough for high school you get up and catch a ferry at 7:15 which takes you to the mainland.

The town was right at the marina. It had a few shops, an ice cream parlor, a grocery store and a florist ... This sign was in front of the flower shop. My favorite? A fish and chips place..... No room for fish and chips because they served scones, strawberry jelly and whipped cream on the morning cruise.....
