We ate.
We learned to make apple strudel form the Austrian pastry chef. Wish I could make a dough like this..... Impressive. We ate.
David learned Spanish :) Well, he signed up for Learning to speak Spanish classes. We went to a few movies, had popcorn. And we played Bingo. Bingo onboard is electronic. The cards are electronic so you don't have to think or tire your fingers when a number is called. You just watch as your card as it fills up and electronically it lets you know if you win. How exciting is THAT??? We never win. We met Elton John and the Beatles. We ate.
Elton John joined our cruise. The Beatles, good friends of Elton, also joined the cruise . They were kind enough to give us a spur of the moment concert in the afternoon. Even David got into the
beat. Everyone joined in. The music brought back so many great memories, a time when music was really worth listening to :).
I still get up earlier then David. He likes his mornings in. I need my wake up time with coffee in the morning and here is where you will find me......a quiet spot watching waves crash ..... feeling in one with the waves of the ocean. The ocean makes for great company.
Shhhh! Don't tell anyone. It is MY private spot.
We went to war with China and lost this round. David and I were going to do an overland where we get off the ship for two days, stay at a hotel and meet up with the ship at a later time. We got approval to take the scooter on the plane. Once we got packed and on the bus, the powers that be changed their minds and said we had to check the scooter which we refused to do. We are smart enough not to even try to argue with anyone in a Chinese uniform. With heads bowed but dignity intact we left the bus with our suitcases and reboarded the Crystal Serenity. We were supposed to go to Guillan and River Li. Maybe next time..... THEN good old China again flexed its muscles. Our ship was ready to leave port 90 minutes earlier then scheduled. In order to leave they demanded a note from our Captain, done. When they got that they THEN wanted a note from the Co Captain- that we did. THEN they wanted a signed note from the Chinese Cruise Terminal Director. We found him, got that and then were allowed to leave......90 minutes AFTER our scheduled time to leave, I was happy I left none of my money in China this trip. We were stressed, so we ATE ...... :)
We spent 4 nights in Hong Kong docked at the Ocean Terminal which is a huge mall with all the fancy expensive stores. Oversight by the designers and huge problem at the mall and all of Hong Kong is that they do not accommodate to wheel chairs, strollers, or the handicap. Elevators were impossible to find. The ones we found were behind official steel doors by the garbage cans in back. The few and far between the mini stair-lifts sometimes worked. If we found one we had to wait for an attendant with a key to work it for us. Sometimes all three of of fit on it, sometimes only David.... If you found one, they worked 50% of the time. When we went out we usually spent all our time and lots of walking to find elevators, or I had to carry David's scooter up and down the stairs. Not good.
We bought a new camera. Cannon SX510HS. It has a 30x zoom and takes nice photos. I can't get used to the bulk even though it is a small camera. My old point and shoot is acting up.
Here is "our" Hong Kong. David did really well all things considered. We met all challenges thrown our way and had a good time anyway.
But obstacles did not hinder our quest! Nope..... We were on a MISSION. We are Travelers not tourists. We are game- give us anything!!! :) Well, sometimes we felt that bold.
Must be time to eat .... somewhere on the ship ..........
Halong Bay next stop.
